Accessorize, accessorize and accessorize!
In the spirit of the upcoming Miss Universe 2010 event, FILIPINOBEAUTY felt compelled to address a commonly asked question in the beauty pageant industry.
IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT THE WORLD, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
FILIPINOBEAUTY (in a vintage Pierre Balmain strapless white dress reminiscent of Penelope Cruz in last year’s Oscars): It is my vision that before I transcend to the next great adventure, I can cease ignorance and impart this knowledge to Filipino Women, ACCESSORIZE! Invest in timeless and unique accessories. These unpretentious items can spruce up an otherwise drab and boring attire. Accessories make a get-up complete. It ties up an outfit. Unlike clothes, accessories can be worn more often than the former. Accessories do not suffer from immediate wear and tear as clothes do. Make the following accessories part of your everyday wardrobe.
1. Cover ups.
Despite the weather in the Philippines, one can still wear cover ups. Wear sleeveless shirts, strapless, halter or backless tops, v-neck blouses under boyfriend blazers, ruched sleeve blazers, shrugs, waistcoats, wraps, sweaters, cardigans or even cotton shirts. This is a perfect opportunity to wear sexy little tank tops without revealing too much skin.
2. Scarves and shawls.
Hollywood Celebrities Jessica Alba, Rachel Bilson and Kim Kardashian are fond of these types of accessories. A plain white tee paired with a pair of jeans can be livened up by the classic shawl or scarf. The scarf or shawl easily provides a flash of color to one’s appearance. It can be wrapped around the neck twice, draped over the neck and left to hang over the back or the front or tied around one’s handbag. The scarf or shawl can also be used as a belt, which is the featured next accessory.

3. Belts.
This is the most important accessory. A belt is not only used to hold up loose-fitting jeans. It brings together an ensemble and enhances a woman’s shape or figure. Emphasize the waist or fake an hourglass body by cinching the waist with a belt over a dress, shirtdress or blouse.
4. Necklaces, bracelets and earrings.
Teardrop or big dangling earrings. A single wide bracelet or numerous bangles. A long, chunky necklace looped around twice or thrice around the neck or just worn loosely like a twenties flappergirl. These accessories liven up a getup and can artistically coordinate an attire.
5. Fashion forward bags and shoes.
These are staples in everyone’s wardrobe. A lot of Filipino women have strong romantic ties with their bags and shoes, sandals and boots. Reserve brown or black conservative pumps for official ceremonies and school. Do not be afraid to wear sexy open toed sandals and pumps. Let your bags and shoes upgrade your look.
